Some consumers are looking for a three-row SUV with credentials and muscle car inspiration. The 2022 Dodge Durango is a midsize SUV, the only one in the Dodge model line-up, after the automaker ditched the horribly obsolete Journey in 2020. Frankly, that doesn’t mean much, as that Durango body style has it. a little over ten years now. The 2022 model year is the twelfth model year of the Durango, and its platform still has its roots in older Mercedes-Benz ML models. It’s just the way Dodge rides.

On the outside, the 2022 Durango is identical to the 2021 model, when Dodge introduced all the major changes. The exterior features a new grille design, accompanied by new headlights, which are fully LED elements. The rear features a redesigned taillight cluster. There are several new models of alloy rims, as well as updated technology and a better infotainment system. The Durango rivals the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Apart from the SRT model, eight trim levels are available: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, RT, Citadel and R / T Plus.

Dodge offers two different powertrains on the 2022 Durango. All Durango models come standard with Chrysler’s well-known 3.6-liter naturally aspirated Pentastar V6. It develops 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R / T, on the other hand, gets a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that develops 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The Citadel is the only trim level available with these two engines. On the Citadel, the V6 is the standard powertrain, and upgrading to the V8 costs $ 3,995 more.

The engines send their power to the rear wheels or all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fortunately, the Durango somehow reinforces its image as a muscle car outside of the driving experience. While not a Challenger, it’s definitely more fun than you’d expect from a three-row SUV. One of the most important aspects of the Durango is towing capacity, which outperforms most of the competition. Durango equipped with a HEMI V8 engine can tow up to 8,700 lbs.

2022 Durango Comfort And Quality

Inside the Durango, wide angle

Inside, the Durango should look familiar to anyone who’s spent time in recent Chrysler products. The biggest change is the new infotainment screen, which has increased in size. Up to 10.1 inches on the higher end models, in fact. It also runs Uconnect 5, the latest generation of Chrysler’s infotainment software, and it’s a great system. The rest of the interior will have you wondering if this really is a 2022 model year vehicle. Here, no full digital gauge cluster or climate controls buried in the displays.

The 2022 model year now has third row seats as standard. The other major difference between the 2021 and 2022 models is that the 2022 models benefit from more standard equipment and safety technologies at each trim level, more than in previous model years. There’s also an optional Harman Kardon sound system and, believe it or not, a DVD player on the back. In terms of safety, the Durango is available with things like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and automatic emergency braking. As mentioned earlier, the Durango can accommodate seven passengers and has 17.2 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats up. Folding down the third row increases the figure to 43.3 cubic feet, and folding down the second row gives you a spacious cargo space of 85.1 cubic feet in total.
