‘Dune’ tops record sales for third week – Media Play News

The new adaptation of Dunes from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment spent a third week at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended January 29.

Identified on screen as Dune: part onethe film is directed by Denis Villeneuve and roughly covers the first half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel on which it is based. Dunes tells the story of factions of a galactic empire in the distant future at war over a desert planet that is home to valuable resources. It grossed $107.5 million at the domestic box office.

MGM no time to die rose two places on both charts to No. 2. The Last James Bond Actor is distributed on disc by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and earned $160.8 million at the domestic box office and sold approximately 93% of copies more than the best seller.

Universal halloween kills dropped one spot to No. 3 on both charts. The sequel to 2018 Halloween earned $92 million at the domestic box office.

MGM The Addams Family 2, distributed on disc by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, slipped to No. 4 on the Record Sales chart and No. 6 on the Blu-ray chart. The animated sequel of 2018 The Addams Family earned $56.5 million at the domestic box office.

The Marvel-Inspired Sequel Venom: let there be carnage from Sony Pictures remained at No. 5 on the overall record sales chart and rose to No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart, in its seventh week on Blu-ray and DVD.

Blu-ray Disc Salesman #5 was an old Marvel Comics adaptation, 2004 The Punisher from Liongate. It was No. 7 on the overall disc chart, propelled to the top due to a Best Buy-exclusive 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Steelbook, as well as a relative lack of new titles during the week.
