The Fantastic Four Star Jessica Alba says Marvel Studios movies are far too dominated by white actors.
In the mid-2000s, Jessica Alba played Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Both films did well at the box office, but neither was well received by fans or critics. This ultimately prompted 20th Century Fox to reboot the franchise in 2015. The film, crazy fantasticr, sadly crushed and burned by audiences and critics alike and was better known for his behind-the-scenes drama than anything else.
Fifteen years have passed since Jessica Alba last appeared in the The Fantastic Four franchise. Since then, Disney has bought 20th Century Fox and acquired the movie rights to the The Fantastic Four franchise with a new movie in development under Marvel Studios. While a lot has changed in the superhero genre, Alba seems to think some things have stayed the same. Precisely that the films are still far too dominated by white actors.
In a recent interview with Glamor UK, Jessica Alba recalled her time in the The Fantastic Four franchise and how the superhero genre was mostly dominated by white actors. While things have changed, they’re still more the same in some ways for the Marvel movies:
“Even if you watch the Marvel movies – that’s the biggest driver of fantasy and what’s happening right now in entertainment, because it’s kind of the family thing – it’s still pretty Caucasian . I would say I was one of the few back then… And that was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it’s still kind of the same.
I just think more for the young people who are coming in, who are going to be our future leaders, it’s important for them to see the world on screen, or in stories, in the dreams that we create as artists; it reflects the world they find themselves in.
Here is the synopsis of 2015 The Fantastic Four:
