PlayStation is one of today’s most beloved gaming brands, with Sony releasing groundbreaking genre-defining games for nearly three decades now. Sony burst onto the gaming scene with the PS1 in 1994, which was born out of the failed Super Nintendo CD project – and has never looked back, with many classic games released on PS1, PS2, PSP , PS3, PS4, PS Vita and now PS5 ever since. While thousands of games have been released on PlayStation formats, there are some rare – and expensive – games and pieces of hardware that collectors seek out and that you’ll hope to see in your collection.

The most expensive PlayStation collectible is the prototype Nintendo PlayStation console. Only 200 of these have been made, but there’s only one in the wild – and it’s valued at over £1.3million.

In terms of collectibles, the Nintendo PlayStation is as rare as it comes – but you don’t need to have something as rare as this hiding in your basement or buried in a closet.

There are a number of rare PS5, PS4, PS3, PS2, and PS1 games that have gone up in value that, if you want, you can sell today and make a huge profit.

The most expensive PS5 games

The PS5 is Sony’s newest console, with the latest PlayStation launching in November 2020.

The PS5, like the Xbox Series X, has been hit by widespread inventory shortages since its launch due to the worldwide shortage of chips, which has led to PS5 consoles being sold by resellers and resellers at an inflated price since almost two years now.

But it’s not just the PS5 console that’s worth above its RRP when you go to resell it.

According to PriceCharting, a website that tracks the prices of countless retro games and consoles, there are also a number of PS5 games that are in demand and selling above asking price on the used market.

The two standouts are Evil Dead: The Game (Ultimate Collector’s Edition) and Elden Ring (Premium Collector’s Edition).

A brand new version of the former is worth over £1,000, while a sealed version of the latter is worth over £900.

This is a big markup over the price PS5 gamers would have paid for these limited-edition games when they were initially released.

There are a few important points to point out though – firstly, these ratings are for the US versions of these games.

And game prices can differ depending on the region a game was released in, as well as whether a game is brand new, full boxed, or loose.

Pre-orders for this limited edition version of the new God of War have been in high demand, and the Jotnar version is currently valued at over £661.

The PS2 is the most successful console of all time, selling 155 million units over its lifetime.

Whether the Nintendo Switch will overtake the PS2 in its lifetime remains to be seen, but for now Sony’s groundbreaking console – which was the first to include a DVD player – remains the undisputed champion.

All in all, the PS2 is a great console to collect, with games from yesteryear available reasonably priced and invariably cheap.

But there are a few exceptions to this rule, and a number of games are in high demand among PS2 collectors and can fetch a huge price tag.

Unlike other PlayStation consoles, the most expensive PS2 game released in the world was released in the UK.

This game is the SNK Sengoku Anthology compilation which is worth over £3000.

And this retro collection isn’t the only PS2 game released in Blighty that’s worth a lot of money.

One of the most requested PS2 games across all regions is the notorious survival horror game Rule of Rose, which was banned in the UK and therefore had a small run.
