According to the author himself – who writes knee-deep in the sixth book of his A song of ice and fire series, The Winds of Winter Paddy Considine’s portrayal of King Viserys Targaryen elevates his creation “significantly” to something greater.

“For years, as some of you may recall, I’ve said that the television version of Shae, as portrayed by Sibel Kekilli, was a deeper, richer, more nuanced character than the Shae in my novels”, Read Martin’s latest blog post.

“In a similar vein, I’m very impressed with the series version of King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine, which gives the character a tragic majesty that my Viserys book never quite achieved.

“Congratulations to Paddy, Ryan [Condal] and its writers, and Miguel [Sapochnik] and other administrators. (There are many great performances in DRAGON HOUSE – or HOT D, as some call it. You may never have heard of some of our cast, but I think you’ll learn to love them, just like you did with the cast of GAME OF THRONES).”

Elsewhere in the sand kings writer’s blog, he revealed he enjoyed watching “rough cuts of nine” Dragon House episodes.

“I continue to be impressed,” Martin wrote. “I can’t speak to the SFX, many of which aren’t available yet, but the look is great, and the acting, directing, and writing are top-notch.”

Dragon House premieres August 21 on HBO in the US and a day later on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. game of thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
