Is it time to bulldoze that abandoned Lubbock liquor store?

If there is one big negative about our beautiful city, it’s that we have more than our fair share of closed businesses that are in serious need of renovation, or just… exorcism. This is one of those places.

Next to Highway 87 on FM 1585 is the old Double T Discount Liquor. You have all seen it. The former drink-driving outlet that is now a mecca for expired tires, weeds and feral cats.

The building looks like a The Walking Dead TV series. . . with exposed wiring, rusty locks on the doors and major pothole action in the parking lot. If I had walked in the back, I would have expected Negan to blow me up with his trusty baseball bat.

Sticking my camera to the door, the inside doesn’t look TOO terrible, if you like TB. Also, I have NO idea how old this counter top TV is at night. I’m pretty sure the last thing on this screen was a brand new episode of The Andy Griffith Show.

The whole time I was taking pictures, I clearly felt like I wasn’t alone, like there were eyes on me all the time. Turns out I wasn’t wrong. Just to the right, next to what appeared to be another fire trap that maybe served as an office, I noticed several feral cats, just watching me.

“I always feel like someone is watching meeeee!”

The cat keepers paid close attention to my every move and only moved away when I approached. These were the only signs of life on the site.

So again we have another horror that needs a new owner, bulldozer, or a good bed of fire. It just makes a growing area look like shit.
