Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Katlego Mashego is hopeful that new club forward Pavol Safranko will be the real deal and not just another European flop.
The reigning DStv Premiership champions have added the 26-year-old Slovak to their squad to help Namibian poacher Peter Shalulile with the load of scoring goals for the club.
Safranko, who signed a five-year contract with the Sundowns, has scored 15 times for former Romanian club Sepsi OSK since joining in 2019.
The Brazilians have reportedly beaten Egyptian Premier League club Pyramids for the signing of Safranko, who had also previously played for Scottish Premiership club Dundee United.
Mashego is hopeful Downs didn’t sign the player after just watching his videotapes as it could backfire.
“The Slovakia striker, I haven’t seen him and I have no idea what he’s doing,” ‘Mahoota’ said KickOff.com.
“It’s very rare that European players come to Africa, if they are among the best players. Having said that, we have had good European players coming to our shores.
“But I mean, 90 percent of them didn’t convince, but I don’t know [about Safranko]. Maybe this is the player they probably spotted or watched play.
“Hopefully it’s not a DVD player or a video player … I mean you see them being pretty good in videos but when they come here they are nothing close to what they are supposed to be. So I wish I didn’t know much about him.
