Maverick breaks a new record as the best-selling digital release of the first week

A week after its take-off on digital platforms, Top Gun: Maverick breaks new records as the best-selling digital release of all time in the United States. This impressive new feat — which is almost as impressive as Maverick’s record-breaking need for speed — follows the legacy sequel which surpassed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. In addition to this impressive feat, Top Gun: Maverick was also hailed as the top-selling item on Amazon in the US across all site categories on Day 1.

Top Gun: Maverick is currently the 6th highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, Tom Cruisethe highest-grossing film of his impressive career, and it won the title of No. 1 Movie of 2022. It has already stolen a coveted place in box office history at Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War the last month. Audiences feel the need for speed and take repeat trips to enjoy this high-octane, feel-good sequel that strikes at the heart of what moviegoers want to see. With a holiday weekend on the horizon and summer drawing to a close, chances are Top Gun: Maverick may reclaim the top spot at the box office this weekend, making it one of the few films to start and end the summer at No. 1.

Realized by Joseph Kosinsky, Top Gun: Maverick sees Cruise reprise the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, which he originated in the 1986 film Superior gun. More than thirty years after the tragedy that occurred in the first film, Maverick is called back to TOPGUN to form a new team of graduates, which includes Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his late friend “Goose”. The film’s high-flying success is due in part to the impressive stunts and action, as well as the feel-good and upbeat experience it provides.
