Ron Perlman is in no rush to do hell boy 3 but still feels the fans deserve the movie to be made.
In 2004, Ron Perlman first appeared as Hellboy with Guillermo del Toro directing. The film itself was well received by critics but was not a huge financial success. It ended up grossing under $100 million worldwide on a $66 million budget. The movie itself, however, did well enough on home media formats for a sequel to be greenlit.
The following, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army was also well received by critics but only managed to earn $168 million worldwide on an $88 million budget. It was also buoyed by home media sales which enabled a proposed third installment, hell boy 3, to enter the development. Unfortunately, the film fell into development hell. and remains one of the projects hovering over the heads of Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro.
Seemingly instead of Ron Perlman’s third film Hellboy, we got the Hellboy reboot with David Harbour. The actor himself admitted that he hadn’t seen the movie and had no interest in seeing it and most of the audience and critics seemed to be with him on that. The film was trashed by critics and was a huge flop, earning just over $55 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
Because hell boy 3, Ron Perlman and director Guillermo del Toro continued their careers. The director has won two Oscars and Ron Pearlman continues to appear in more films than can be counted. While speaking to The Independent, Perlman admitted he wasn’t eager to reprise the role of Hellboy, citing his age, but still felt he, del Toro and the studio owed it to fans calling on the director to do so. :
“Am I looking forward to doing Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71. We owe it to the fans. And we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done hammering you to get this fucking thing done.
